Washington County Sheriff - Ohio

Update 01/06/2025 9:00am

A Level 3 Snow Emergency has been issued by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office meaning only emergent vehicles are to be on the roadways and any unnecessary travel could result in verification and arrest by local law enforcement. In efforts to dissuade pedestrian traffic and in our employees best interests, our 418 Third Street location will remain closed today, but all agents will be available by email (listed below) if needed and Allie will be available to take calls from home. Please stay off the roads unless it is an emergency and allow emergency personnel to work safely!

01/05/2025

Our region is going to be impacted by a major winter weather event starting as early at 2:00pm but becoming impactful by 6:00pm on 01/05/2025 and continuing throughout the night and the following day. It is anticipated that the majority of this winter weather will be through our region nearing 10:00pm on 01/06/2025. As a reminder, our area is currently under a winter storm warning lasting until Tuesday, January 7th, at 1:00am EST. While it currently seems as if most of the anticipated ice won’t directly impact the Mid-Ohio Valley, the anticipated 12-14” of snow is plenty enough to keep us all vigilant.

With this major threat of inclement weather looming over us, we felt it an appropriate time to remind everyone of some important winter weather home and auto safety tips.

  • make sure all outdoor faucets and hoses are drained and the water is off

  • leave your home at 65° or warmer when temps are below freezing

  • leave faucets on a drip if the home will be unattended

  • when you hit ice while driving, do not hit the brakes, but instead take your foot off the gas

  • if sliding, turn your wheel in the direction of the skid

  • HAVE FULL COVERAGE ON THE AUTO YOU’RE DRIVING (this means comprehensive and collision). If you choose to forgo full coverage, have uninsured/underinsured property damage to protect your vehicle.

  • make sure all devices are charged and motor vehicles have more than 1/4 of gasoline

  • check on your neighbors!
