In 1928, Alvin J. Jolly founded the Jolly Insurance Agency in Marietta, Ohio after graduating from Marietta College. It was upon Mr. Jolly’s death in 1951 that Daniel A.T. O’Neill and family purchased the business and renamed it O’Neill Insurance Agency. At the time, the office was located in The First National Bank Building where it remained until the year 1974. C. William O’Neill assumed control over the O’Neill Insurance Agency in 1959 until he became the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and his life in politics required him to fully relocate to Columbus, Ohio and sell the family agency.
Darrel L. Schultheis of Newport, Ohio was a peach farmer and U.S. Navy Veteran Master Welder and a client of O’Neill Insurance. While Bill was assuming this new role in the Supreme Court, there was also a horrible frost that killed Darrel’s fruit crop. It was at this time in September of 1963, that Bill approached his friend Darrel, who agreed to purchase the insurance agency that then became Schultheis Insurance.
Darrel’s youngest son, Kirk, joined the family business in 1986 and in 1989, after being located at One Courthouse Lane for 15 years, Schultheis Insurance relocated for the final time to our current location at 418 Third Street. We are a second generation, family owned and operated agency with a third generation of Schultheis working and learning alongside her father.
Schultheis Insurance has been committed to serving the Mid-Ohio Valley community for almost 100 years and will continue to do so with loyalty and honesty.
Excerpt from a manual written and signed by Helen Schultheis in the year 1981 outlining the philosophy of insurance which exemplifies our longstanding love and dedication for our community and our customers.
